Can I get an implant if there is melting in the jaw bone?

Jaw bones begin to resorb after tooth extraction. Applying dental implants after tooth extraction will stop bone resorption. However, there are problems in applying implants to resorbed bones that have been toothless for many years.

When there is not enough healthy bone, graft, or bone powder, is applied to increase the amount of bone. Bone powder allows the width and length of the bone to be increased and the implants to be placed by increasing the volume.

Bone powder can be taken from another part of the patient's body (hip, leg bones),or it can be taken and applied from different parts of the mouth (lower or upper jaw). It is taken especially from the ramus or mental (jaw tip) area in the lower jaw. Apart from this, ready-made bone grafts can also be used. Allografts or xenografts are frequently used graft materials.

If the amount of bone under the space called sinus, which corresponds to the root area of ​​the molars in the upper jaw, is insufficient, sinus elevation can be performed by placing graft material into the sinus and implants can be placed in this way.

What are the Situations That May Encounter After Implant Treatment?

• The main possible complications after implant treatment are facial swelling and bruising within the first 48 hours.
• After implant treatments, long-lasting bleeding may occur in the wound areas. If bleeding does not stop with tampons for a long time, consult your doctor.
• It is possible to experience short-term, simple and moderate pain after implant treatments. You must use the medications prescribed by your doctor regularly.
